Pros and Cons of Using Smartwatches and Traditional Watches.

For many years, all we had were the traditional watches but like all things, we have experienced the miracles of technological innovations with wristwatches as well. So, now, we have smartwatches and they are called smartwatches for practically the same reason we call certain phones smartphones; their functions go beyond the basic functions of wristwatches. They can be used to run apps, act as a fitness tracker and a range of other smart functions. However, you might be surprised that despite the technological edge smartwatches have over traditional watches, they are not without their disadvantages as well. So, if you are considering buying a wristwatch and finding it hard to decide between smartwatches and traditional watches, we have got you covered. This article will be discussing the pros and cons of smartwatches and traditional watches

Smartwatches VS Traditional Watches

Smart Features

The most obvious advantage smartwatches have over traditional watches is the fact that they are smart - for lack of a better word. As mentioned earlier, you can make calls and send messages, operate apps, listen to music, and a lot more with a smartwatch but you can only check the time with the traditional watches.

Battery Life

Smartwatches need constant charging because the battery life is not that great. Mostly, you can only use it for a day or two before it needs to be recharged. Without its battery, a smartwatch is useless but traditional watches come with batteries that don’t need to be recharged.

Convenience

One argument for smartphones is that they are convenient but they are still inconvenient in comparison to a traditional watch. All you have to do is connect your smartwatch to your smartphone or internet connection and you can do practically everything you can do on your phone, including, make calls, send texts, listen to music, make cashless transactions amongst others.

Screen Size

The screen size of a smartwatch is a huge disadvantage because navigating the screen is difficult in such a small space. You might find it difficult to choose the button with all the apps clustered on the screen. Watching videos is also not as pleasant as using a device with a larger screen. So, you might not enjoy using a smartwatch as you assume you would because of the screen.

Healthy Lifestyle

A smartwatch encourages a fitness lifestyle because it helps you track the time for your exercise, monitor calories, heart rate, and blood pressure. It will provide you with health details that will inspire you to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Without saying much, a traditional watch obviously cannot offer you that.

Limited Range

If your smartwatch cannot be connected to an internet connection, it needs to be connected to your smartphone with this smartphone close by. Once you move from the range (about 300 feet) of your phone, your smartwatch will be disconnected. You can use your traditional wristwatch anytime, any day; it does not depend on any other device to function.

Notifications

Have you ever missed important calls, messages or emails because your phone wasn’t around you? If you have, you will appreciate the quick access to notifications that a smartwatch provides. No matter where you are, you can receive instant notifications as long as your wristwatch is strapped to your wristwatch and access the call or message without seeking out your phone.

Price

It is obvious that smartwatches are quite expensive. So, if your income bracket does not support it, a traditional watch might be a better choice.

Entertainment

It is more convenient listening to music with your wristwatch and controlling the music you are listening to. You can also watch movies from your smartphone without taking your phone from your pocket or bag. Traditional watches don’t entertain you; they are not for entertainment.

Distraction

While instant access to notifications is nice, it can also be a huge distraction. Constantly being on social media and not taking time to rest become even more real with a smartwatch. It is easier to ignore a phone than a wristwatch that is constantly buzzing on your wrist.

Aesthetic Value

We have to add this! Smartwatches are fashionable and stylish! Besides that, the screen can be customised based on your preferences; so the background can keep changing as you wish. However, if you are not fussy about the monotonous background of traditional watches, there are also a variety of very fashionable wristwatches that you can find.

In conclusion, we cannot choose for you and tell you which to pick between smartwatches and traditional watches. However, looking at all the pros and cons of both, you can make an informed decision on what you consider important and unimportant.
